Why Yame, why now

The world is rediscovering Japanese tea.

Global demand for fine Japanese green tea is climbing to record highs. And Yame — a small region in Kyushu — is the source of its most prized leaf: gyokuro, the deep, sweet, shade-grown green tea that Japan tends to keep for itself.

Tea served here since the age of the samurai. Now, ready to travel.

Our craft

Since 1829.
Roasted & blended by the house.

Koga Seicha Honpo was founded in 1829, in the late Edo period — and across nearly two centuries we have refined one craft: choosing fine Yame leaf, roasting it with care, and blending it to a flavour that is unmistakably ours.

That inheritance — generations of judgement, passed down inside one house — is what stands behind every tea we make, from a single daily cup to our finest gyokuro.

The teas

Four ways into Yame

Gyokuro

Gyokuro

Yame's signature. Shaded from the sun for weeks before harvest, it pours a jade-green cup with an almost broth-like, lingering sweetness.

Sencha Kaoru

Sencha “Kaoru”

Our signature everyday sencha — bright, fragrant and gently sweet. The cup most Yame households reach for, from around ¥1,080.

Kukicha — stem tea

Kukicha

A light, mellow tea pressed from tender stems. Low in bitterness, easy all day — a quiet favourite, and a gentle place to begin.

Yame tea selection set

Yame Selection Box

A boxed selection of our teas, packed fresh. The most generous way to begin — for yourself, or as a gift from Japan.

From everyday tea bags around ¥648 to gyokuro and selection boxes — packed fresh by the house.
